Young Independent Filmmakers Award 2008

Tuggeranong Arts Centre is proud to present the first annual Young Independent Filmmakers Award in November 2008. This competition is a chance for film-makers under the age of 25 years to showcase their works and win great prizes.

Red Carpet Event – Screening and announcement of winners: Thursday 20 November, 7pm

Encore Screening: Thursday 27 November, 7.30pm

In the Tuggeranong Arts Centre theatre. Entry is free!

South Asian Film Festival

The diplomatic missions of Afghanistan, India, Nepal, Pakistan and Sri Lanka in Canberra are pleased to announce an exciting new film festival celebrating south Asian film culture. This will be the first time that these five embassies have participated together in a collaborative showcase of films in Canberra.

Tickets are $5, and screenings take place in the Tuggeranong Arts Centre theatre from Friday 28 November to Monday 1 December.

Just Another Day In Paradise

Sebastian and Georgina Perri are two local artists who feature in the gallery from Thursday 6th November through to Monday 24th November. With their tongues firmly planted in their cheeks, this duo take on the big questions and hope the audience connect with the humour in their work. "Just another day in Paradise" is the first time Sebastian and Georgina have exhibited together and combines Sebastian's oils and acrylics and Georginas ceramics.

Women and Art in Papua New Guinea

In the Atrium from Tuesday 4th November to Monday 24th November the very vibrant, art of Papuan New Guinea artists. The majority of these artists sell their work though the street markets throughout PNG and for many years, Richard Hogg has been a patron. This collection is about Women and Art in Papua New Guinea and features women artists and issues covering women such as traditional roles and activities and violence against women.

Tuggeranong Photographic Competition

Tuggeranong Arts Centre is pleased to announce this year’s theme for the Tuggeranong Community Festival photographic competition.

Fathers, Families, Fun will give local photographers an opportunity to focus on the fathers – or father figures, families or fun in whatever creative, innovative ways they would like.  Portraits and action photography are obvious approaches, but photographers of all ages are encouraged to come up with imaginative approaches to any or all of these themes.

The competition will be judged by practising professional photographers and photomedia artists then exhibited in the Atrium Gallery of Tuggeranong Arts Centre from 26 November until 8 December.  In the new year, images will also be displayed at the Tuggeranong Child and Family Centre.
