“Many of these songs were written while I was travelling through Asia and Europe for two years, so I'm very excited to bring them back home and revamp them for an audience that will actually get the jokes,” said Mr Morris.

“I'm also fortunate to have the opportunity to work with some of Canberra's finest young performers, and I think the Tuggeranong Arts Centre – which has a strong reputation for supporting emerging artists - is the perfect venue for this collaboration,“ he said.

Even loyal fans familiar with Rafe's previous solo work will be surprised and delighted to hear some of their favourite tunes brought to life with new arrangements and a grand jazz-influenced musical accompaniment.

“The show has been created specifically for this occasion so the whole team is excited, enthusiastic, and all the material is fresh and original,” said Mr Morris.

“Audiences can expect quality music, a warm and relaxed environment and themes they can really relate to; but also lots of laughs, mayhem and silliness in between,” he said.

with Rafe Morris

Songs about Civic's Soup Kitchen Lady, a lament for broken sunglasses and disregarding restraining orders are on the musical menu when Rafe and The Well-Dressed perform at the Tuggeranong Arts Centre in May.

In their first public performance, the six-piece troupe will be joined by actors, dancers and other artists who, under the guidance of accomplished theatre identity Adam Hadley, will bring a distinctive and absurd element to the show.

Recently returned to Canberra, front man for the act and well-known local singer-songwriter Rafe Morris said A Show To Make You Smile will feature a mix of old favourites and new material.

Well-known in local music circles as the former lead singer of ska-rock band Dahahoo, Rafe Morris has been performing as a solo artist since 2006 and has created the new show at the invitation of the Tuggeranong Arts Centre.

In an entertaining and contemporary take on traditional cabaret, songs will be interwoven with comedic skits, interpretive movement, creative dance (including belly dancing), spoken word monologue and fabulous costumes, directed by Adam Hadley.

The main act consists of Rafe Morris (songwriter, vocals, guitar, arrangements), along with Bec Taylor (piano, backing vocals), Zach Raffan (trumpet), Nicola Menser Hearn (bass clarinet), Catherine Keely (double bass) and Nick Peddle (drums).
