DEADLY FUNNY 2022

Join this year’s local competitors and the 2022 host Kevin Kropinyeri for a great night of comedy when Melbourne International Comedy Festival and Deadly Funny present the Canberra heats in this national comedy competition.

Take part as a participant or buy a ticket to be part of the live audience. Cheeky and loud, black and proud, Deadly Funny returns for another year, trekking around the country to unearth some of the freshest, fiercest and funniest comedians from the oldest culture on earth.

When and where:

Canberra heats – participants workshop: 4pm – 6pm, Saturday 26 November 2022

Canberra heats – live performance: 6:30pm – 8pm, Saturday 26 November 2022

Location: The Lodge, Tuggeranong Arts Centre

The competition is open to all Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islanders over the age of 18.

Entering its 17th year, Deadly Funny has seen the likes Steph Tisdell, Kevin Kropinyeri, Andy
Saunders, Shiralee Hood, Dane Simpson, Elaine Crombie
and Sean Choolburra join the
program as both participants and mentors – and you could be next!

To participate, all you need is five minutes of funny material. Material can be stand up, musical,
sketch, physical/dance or character based, or simply the telling of a good yarn. You’ll run through
your ideas with a professional comedian in a three-hour workshop, and then jump on stage for a
public performance.

Need more reasons to enter? Those who progress from their heat will be flown to Melbourne to
perform at the 2023 Melbourne International Comedy Festival and compete for the Deadly Funny
crown and a $2,000 cash prize!

Live performace:

Be part of the live audience when these budding comedian take their act to the stage for the first time, in front of the competition judges and find who will head to Melbourne to competen nationally.

The live performance will be held in the Lodge, upstairs at the Tuggeranong Arts Centre from 6:30 pm – 8:00 pm on Saturday 26 November 2022.

Tickets are $20 and $15.
