Learning respect and the meaning of reconciliation through art
At the heart of this exhibition by Bonython Primary School is an inquiry into what an Acknowledgment of Country means and what it is for: to make an Acknowledgement more than words that are simply said at assembly.
Bonython Primary School has worked with their students throughout the year to build their students’ understanding of the land upon which they learn, play, walk and wonder, and their expression of this through art. Artworks featured in the exhibition represent the journey students have taken to form a deeper understanding of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander culture and histories.
Acknowledging Country is a tribute to the beautiful Ngunnawal country on which we live and learn, and is a gesture of reconciliation by the students. Each artwork articulates the diversity of the students’ thinking and experiences and connects to new perspectives and understandings.
