Dance Hall

From the creators of the World’s Most Provocative Variety shows, and Australia’s longest touring burlesque spectacle Caravan Burlesque, comes the whole-of-community shindig, Dance Hall!

Born out of Finucane & Smith’s love affair with regional and remote Australia, and packed with songbirds and showgirls, disco divas and dancing stars, opera arias, local legends, burlesque twirlers and go-go groovers, when the Dance Hall touring party of four (Moira Finucane, Willow Sizer, Lachlan Bartlett, Piera Dennerstein) roll into Tuggeranong, they’ll work with Canberra artists: Tahalianna Soward-Mahanga, Venus Mantrap, Mamma MadB, Jazida’s Fabulous Fan Dancers, Crem Dela Crop and Ravi Oli, lifting up each one – infusing them with confidence and pulling together the ultimate variety night where local Tuggeranong talent join forces with international stars in an extravaganza of song and dance.

Sweeping the whole community into Macarena madness, this enormous lineup of talent will take to the Tuggeranong theatre stage – which will be decked out in satin and velvet drapes, glowing lanterns, and disco dazzle, for a four-night season from Wednesday 3o November to Saturday 3 December, 7.30pm.

Moira Finucane is a writer, performer, creator, director, and global cabaret star; internationally renowned for her arresting mix of provocation and entertainment in unforgettable ‘salons of humanity’ that have toured 18 countries, won 15 awards and acclaim in 13 languages, from Antarctica to London, Paris to Tokyo.   

Sheis a founding force of new-form burlesque and cabaret that’s swept Australia and the world; she’s created the world’s most awarded provocative variety The Burlesque Hour/Glory Box, touring Latin America, USA, Scandinavia, Europe and UK, to 600,000 fans, winning a swag of awards including International Theatre Institute’s CHAMACO Award (Cuba) for International Presentation of the Year. In 2012 Finucane’s first regional and remote tour, Caravan Burlesque barnstormed Australia for 8 months of dancing ovations, becoming the longest tour of variety since the gold rush and kicking off a love affair with regional and remote Australians that continues a decade later with Dance Hall.

Willow Sizer The Songbird -Dance Hall.

Willow Sizer is an actor, musician, writer and a graduate of the Victorian College of the Arts, Music Theatre BFA. Their work in Cabaret includes Put the Blame on Mame, 2017 and two seasons of their Green Room nominated work, Death of a Demi Diva, 2019. In 2019 they completed a multi-disciplinary commission, Cowboys and Taxes, for Victorian College of the Arts and were nominated for a Green Room Award for their year’s work: Paulette in Legally Blonde (James Terry Collective) and Pearl White in Ghost Quartet (Antipodes Theatre Co). Most recently they were assistant Music Director and performer in Jo Cliffords landmark play; The Gospel According to Jesus, Queen of Heaven (Bullet Heart Club) and performed in a redevelopment of Lachlan Philpott’s play, BISON, at Theatreworks (wreckedALLprods) 2021.

Piera Dennerstein, Operatic Disco Diva, Dance-Hall.

As the live-performance scene in Australia reawakens, Piera has joined the roster of Artist Bookings Agency, become a member of the Victorian Opera Chorus and performed in recital for Australia’s premiere Art Song institution, Art Song Canberra. She has also joined the legendary Finucane & Smith in their triumphant return to the stage at Luna Park, Melbourne and formalised her cross-over status with Jazz and Blues solo shows as part of Midsumma Festival and at the prestigious Clocktower Centre. 2020 began with Piera securing a place on 3MBS Radio’s The Talent programme. She also performed for the second time at the Melbourne Recital Centre for the 3MBS Marathon. Throughout the lockdown, Piera performed regularly in online salons for Finucane & Smith, including in a line-up featuring Australian living legend Paul Kelly. In 2019 Piera performed her first leading role in a grand opera: Adina in GBD Productions’ tour of L’elisir d’amore by Donizetti. The second half of the year was spent engaged with the legendary Finucane & Smith as a guest artist in international performances of The Rapture and The Rapture Chapter II. She continues to perform regularly at corporate events, particularly for Vavachi Productions and Entertainment International.

Cabaret lightning rod and burlesque superstar, Jazida is renowned for her rapid fire, electrifying performances stampeding across magic, burlesque, fire-eating, sword dancing and fan twirling. She has astonished audiences across Australia. Voted in the global top 50 of burlesque’s most influential artists, her company Jazida Productions has opened an alternate performance hub in Canberra, Flazéda, which runs packed out classes live and online celebrating the moving beauty of every single body and winning Canberra Local Business Awards for Outstanding Performing Arts. 


Karliea Decker

Crem De La Crop is performed by Karliea Decker is a proud Aboriginal woman, and multi-talented artist across the fields of dance, clowning, directing, and writing. Karliea has more than 10 years experience as a performer. Having focused on a variety of dance styles under the respective umbrellas of belly dance and burlesque, Karliea has worked as a performer, choreographer, producer, and teacher. In burlesque she has also worked as a mentor, act consultant, and competition judge. A graduate of École Philippe Gaulier with a demonstrable talent for directing and clowning, Karliea has co-written the exciting new intersectional theatre comedy show Abu Salim.


Drag King, Ravi Oli

Ravi made his debut on Get Down in Lockdown with Flazeda HUb. Since his debut, Ravi has been stealing the limelight all around Canberra, especially as Santa Chari during Christmas. Ravi has been dancing all his life and most recently danced into your hearts as the Crown Winner at the April Fool’s Drag Pageant. He’s won many hearts with his exciting moves and devilish looks.  Ravi Oli is a sleek and Suave Drag king. Ravi meaning sun and Oli meaning Light, Ravi Oli will beam into your hearts with the brightest smile. Ravi is a cheeky and dapper ethnic who thrives from being in the spotlight but craves to drag you away to a candle lit corner to woo you one on one.

Venus Mantrap is a drag performer whose work spans folk, rock and pop styles. Venus paints hilarious and sometimes heart-wrenching portraits of life behind the lashes.


Mamma MadB, 2022

Mamma MadB is a multi-faceted performer and artist from creative arts and writing to Drag!   With work featuring in numerous national festivals and shows including accomplishing a few firsts including Canberra’s first fully POC show ever and a contributing writer and performer in Lost in Transit!  They’re a parental unit to four biological children and a many many many drag children! Whether they be drag or just gender diverse and seeking a mama figure to help along the way! Presenting Mama MadB!
