Combining the nude form with glitter, Lester has created new sculptural landscape forms in his images. The gentle curves and shape of the nude are highlighted with the play of light and shadow and the texture of the glitter. The images resemble a surreal, other-worldly landscape.
Lester’s work with the Canberra burlesque community inspired this evolution in his study of the human form and has led to the exploration of the connection between the human body and glitter. The addition of glitter on the skin creates a texture that is tangible to the viewer and enhances the sculptural elements of the final image. The images in the Glitterscapes series vary from easily recognisable body parts to others where the part of the body photographed resembles a surreal, fantasy or other worldly landscape. Each image is unique through the combination of concept, model, lighting, glitter type and colour.
