It’s been over 10 years since Trish hung up her ‘Idea of North’ acappella hat. During her 15 years with Canberra’s ARIA-winning group, her song-writing was well utilized, and her efforts garnered several prestige awards.

These days, Trish has returned to what she loves best – a small, tight ensemble performing original material and arrangements of favourite jazz standards in which the voice functions both as storyteller, and as an additional instrument, wordless and blended.

Along with her duties as Head of Vocals, at Wollongong Conservatorium, Trish continues to perform and record. Her 2017 album, The Game, (ABC Jazz Digital) was shortlisted for a 2018 ARIA “Best Jazz Album “and her latest EP of original material is due for release in early 2024, hot on the heels of the debut EP for her vocal trio LYHRA.

For the upcoming concert, Trish will be singing songs from her 2017 ARIA shortlisted album The Game as well as favourite jazz standards and newer compositions, including songs from the upcoming EP.

Master class: Performance Magic – Behind the Curtain
Building authenticity and confidence in performance.

Come behind the curtain with award winning songwriter and performer Trish Delaney-Brown as she unpacks how to find your authentic voice, make friends with vulnerability, build connection with your audience and free your artistic expression.

  • Do you have some technical challenges that frustrate your performance? Would you like to connect emotionally with the material on a deeper level?
  • Do you struggle to connect with your audience?
  • Or are you just interested in the creative process of putting a successful performance together?

With practical exercises and valuable information to help tackle the challenges of performing, this workshop will explore ways of increasing your confidence, authenticity and creativity in performance. There will also be the opportunity for a small number of attendees to perform and receive feedback from a highly respected and experienced performer and vocal coach.

Masterclass participants will need to self accompany or bring backing track. When you register please indicate the song you would like to sing, and previous experience. Limited places available.

Jazz Haus: The Chris Cody Quartet

Internationally recognised jazz pianist and composer Chris Cody has thrilled audiences at festivals and venues around the world from New York to Zanzibar, working with jazz greats Roy Hargrove, Herb Geller, Rhoda Scott, Lisa Simone, Brice Wassy, and Miles Davis alumni Rick Margitza along the way.

In a career spanning 30 plus years, Cody has headlined numerous international festivals including Paris Quartiers d’Eté London, Rome, Brussels Jazz Marathon, Stockholm, Munich, Marciac, Geneva, Ascona, Derry, Dar Es Salaam and Algiers and a vast array of concert venues throughout the USA, Europe, Africa and Australasia, from the Village Gate NYC to the Munich Staatsoper.

His upcoming gig at Tuggeranong Arts Centre on Saturday 24 February will see Cody play for Canberra audiences for the first time. He will be joined by Max Alduca on double bass, Mike Avgenicos on Sax and James Waples on drums. The quartet will perform a collection of favourites from Cody’s huge jazz catalogue, and compositions from his recently released album, “The Outsider.”

Featuring exciting new music infused with infectious African and Middle Eastern grooves and motifs, Cody’s highly anticipated album spans multiple genres, including blues, gospel and jazz, film noir ballads and wild swing. Inspired by the work of French writer and philosopher Albert Camus, Codys’ many years living in Paris, and the COVID experience, the album features compositions exploring themes of identity and purpose. Like Camus, Chris wanted the response to be one of courage, action, and joy, and intended for the music to reflect this. Regarding it as his finest musical project to date, Cody describes it as a joyous life-affirming response to adversity, music of beauty and hope.

Album Reviews:

“Free flowing, inspired, high revving, hugely evocative, elegantly layered, wonderfully lithe and sinewy, elegiac musing, rampant lyricism, opulent ensemble harmonies, mix of longing and nostalgia, compositional sophistication…his finest album.” SMH The Outsider 2022
