Two Canberra artists, Caroline Ambrus and Annette Schneider, explore the personal and political through their paintings and sculpture.
Personal and Political at Tuggeranong Arts Centre offers two distinct bodies of work by two Canberra artists that explore personal narratives with a political edge.
Ambrus re-tells the childhood classic, The Wizard of Oz, to create an immersive installation that investigates this classic tale’s feminist, political, religious and economical interpretations within a contemporary backdrop. In her paintings Ambrus creates anamorphic illusions, which direct the viewer to a certain vantage point to view the intended image.
In contrast, Schneider is concerned about the state of our planet and the effects of climate change. Her large-scale paintings focus on the intransient nature of family and friendship in a rapidly changing and deteriorating world. They reflect on the artists past and her fears for the future.
Join us for the exhibition opening at 6pm on Thursday 6 June. Free, all welcome.
Exhibition continues until Saturday 29 June, 2019.
