When:May – July 2019
Spoken word and performance poetry is fast becoming one of the most popular forms of literary self-expression and Canberra is fortunate to have a thriving and diverse spoken word and poetry scene centred in the city and Inner North.
To bring this dynamic art form further south of the Lake, poet, artist and community development worker Jacqui Malins will facilitate a series of spoken word poetry workshops for groups in both Tuggeranong and Woden. These workshops will culminate in a public showcase giving participants the chance to perform alongside established feature poets.
Jacqui Malins is a performance poet and visual artist. Her first book of poetry ‘Cavorting with Time’ (Recent Works Press) was published in 2018, but her specialty is writing poetry to be spoken out loud – she was a finalist in the Australian Poetry Slam in 2015 and has featured at poetry events including the National Folk Festival. She loves to share the joy of writing and the power of finding your voice. Jacqui is also the co-founder and organiser of Mother Tongue Multilingual Poetry in Canberra, creating a platform for self-expression and the sharing of culture and experience in diverse languages.
