THE GLASS SLIPPER

Tuggeranong Arts Centre’s dance program Fresh Funk is putting a modern hip hop spin on the classic fairytale Cinderella in their end of semester show at Erindale Theatre on Sunday 19 June.

While audiences will notice similarities in the overall narrative, the Fresh Funk version is more expansive, reflecting what is happening in society today as many young people are more empowered to claim their own authenticity, rather than meet societal expectations.

In The Glass Slipper the female protagonist chooses to follow her own path rather than take on the role of princess. According to Chanelle Smith, who plays “Ella”, this approach aligns better with the values that young people hold these days.

A punchy energetic soundtrack will have you dancing along in your seat, featuring artists such a Justin Bieber, Camilla Cabello, Beyonce and Ed Sheeran. Tracks like Material Girl by Madonna speak to the traditional messages that the show is challenging, as they break stereotypes and make the story their own.

Performed at Erindale theatre, the production features the full cast of 250+ dancers performing a commercial hip-hop showcase to a fantastic soundtrack, with large-scale video components, stunning lighting and action packed choreography.

“The Glass Slipper,” Erindale Theatre, Wanniassa, 5pm and 8pm shows, Sunday, June 19
