Drawing from the loss, laughter and love found through dementia
Artist, Lucile Carson, began this deeply personal series of drawings exhibited in Time’s Marks after her mother died. They reflect on the relentless journey of dementia that her mother suffered and the impact the disease had on those around her.
While Carson’s drawings look back at the process and effects of the disease they are also reflective of the fun and laughter, the insights and the extraordinary honesty and intimacy that developed in their relationship.
They are sad and perhaps difficult drawings that reference a woman who was not unhappy or afraid of dying. They reflect on the artist’s feelings of loss but also the collective strength and resilience of family.
