In 2016 the team at Tuggeranong Arts started to work thematically across all program areas.
By setting an annual theme that has relevance to the strategic goals of the organisation and encourages creative discourse, regarding relevant political and social topics, we hoped to inspire artists and audiences alike, to work with the theme.
The Tuggeranong Arts Centre will continue to work thematically and by doing so engage with interest groups and individuals, artists and performers, who wish to work with us to explore the theme through arts and cultural development.
In 2019 our theme is Contra
‘Contra’ will encourage artists, creative participants and audiences to explore a myriad of topics and creative disciplines.
What happens when we work against, in spite of and outside of the expected? The theme will allow for exploration of otherness and the complex meaning of connectedness in a world electronically connected , yet the connectedness to one-self and others seems to become more difficult and fragmented as we move into a challenging future.
In 2020, our creative program will focus on the theme Solastalgia.
Solastalgia: as our homes and environments disappear in the face of destruction, dispossession and climate change, will art be a tool for action, a witness to desolation, or merely a salve for our anxieties?
If you have a bold idea for an exhibition, community engagement project, event, public program or an art practice that engages with the theme Solastalgia, we want to hear from you.
