Footprints on our Land
Footprints on Our Land is a documentary film exploring the life and legacy of Ngunnawal Elder Aunty Agnes Shea.
Ranging from her life as a girl on Oak Hill and Hollywood missions in Yass to the present day, Footprints on Our Land captures Aunty Agnes’s life as a survivor of racism, a caring mother and grandmother and a strong advocate for her community.
Made by highly respected documentary filmmaker Pat Fiske, the film portrays an optimistic woman whose tenacity and good humour brought her through the challenges that were typical of a generation of Aboriginal people growing up on missions.
Through her life so far, we see a microcosm of the ongoing Australian journey towards Reconciliation. She has shared her time and wisdom with the United Ngunnawal Elders Council and made a major contribution to the establishment of the Ngunnawal Bush Healing Farm.
Footprints on Our Land is testament to a senior Elder whose tireless service welcoming people to Ngunnawal country, in the tradition of her people, has been a major force for Reconciliation in the ACT.
It has been made over the course of several months, beginning with Aunty Agnes’s Welcome to Country at the Citizenship Ceremony on Australia Day this year.
The film was produced by Tuggeranong Community Arts Association and made in collaboration with emerging Indigenous filmmaker Nevanka McKeon, local cinematographers, Aunty Agnes’s family and the ACT Indigenous community.
At age 84, Aunty Agnes tirelessly performs welcome to country ceremonies across Canberra almost every day.
Tuggeranong Arts Centre produced the film, with the support of the ACT Government, to recognise and celebrate Indigenous culture in the ACT, and particularly in Tuggeranong, where Aunty Agnes lives and where the Healing Farm will open during 2016.

Tuggeranong Arts Centre is excited to share the story of Aunty Agnes Shea, her work for the Ngunnawal people, and her legacy in the local community.
We welcome and encourage organisations and community groups to purchase public screening rights for the film.

To preserve the integrity of this film, The Arts Centre reminds you that public screening rights are required for all group screenings and are strictly limited to the purchasing organisation for internal use or public screenings where no admission fees are charged.

Please note ALL ‘in public’ screenings must be approved by Tuggeranong Arts Centre management and will be subject to our screening Terms and Conditions.
Tuggeranong Arts Centre can provide screenings in our Theatre for up to 110 people. Packages include a film screening plus access to the Theatre for up to 2 hours with equipment available for speeches and seminars. Pre- and post-screening events and refreshments can also be arranged on request (costs apply).
