Tickets for Tuggeranong Arts Centre’s May 2021 season of “Fresh Faced Funk” Young Choreographers Initiative are now on sale.
The project invites students from Fresh Funk’s Senior Guys and Master classes to apply to create an original dance work.
Young choreographers have full control over all the elements of their piece, from movement to lighting design and costumes.
Dancers from the program’s Advanced classes are allocated to the participating choreographers.
The May 2021 season will be the first live performance for Fresh Funk since the end of 2019, when COVID shut down theatres and live shows. As such, the excitement for this show is sky-high, with performers rearing to get on stage and experience the cheers and applause of their audiences.
This season features original works by: Jessica Bui, Jamie Dunn, Casey Johnson, Lateisha Livermore, Lachlan Lowe, Lucy Nugent, Vic Scott, Chanelle Smith, Caroline “Leena” Wall.
The dance ensembles rehearse their pieces for 7 weeks during the semester before taking them to the stage. The pieces range from duos to large ensembles, spanning contemporary and hip-hop styles.
The project has been running every semester for over 14 years and is an important platform for emerging artists to explore their creative ideas and create new work in a nurturing environment.
It is also a great opportunity for the advanced dancers to work with different choreographers and learn from their peers who are stepping into the role of leader and teacher for their allocated dancers.
Show runs for approx. 90mins including a 5-min interval.
